The Elf's Ramblings
The busy little elf to the left is me, the Administrator of this Web site and the network it is attached to.
I started to build this site as a memory to my family and for my grandchildren.
I first began with computers back in 1996 when I acquired an Escom computer with a whole 1Gb of disk space and a full 8Mb RAM. After the company went bankrupt I upgraded it to a full 16Mb RAM which enabled Windows 95 to fly on that machine......
A couple of years went by and I upgraded bit by bit, improving my knowledge of computers as I went by reading the magazines and applying what I learnt. Then came the day where I felt confident enough to build my own machine to my specifications.
So today, I have a Server running a network of 2 computers, under Windows 2000 Advanced Server with RAID 0+1, and you are reading this from under my staircase in a cupboard out of the way of peering eyes and prying fingers. But hopefully this will expand to include wireless-connected others.

I have the necessary kit to enable Wireless networking now so this has been set up to enable my daughters computer, across the road. to access the internet and this web site also. It has been a headache to remember all the IP Addresses and passwords for all the different computers now attached to this network, not withstanding all the different configurations to enable different tasks for each computer.
Am I secure here? I certainly hope so... But don't test it .... Please ....PLEASE!...lol

Just added another Windows 2000 machine to the network now that wifey wanted to do some work in Office. so now have 3 computers attached to the network. It's getting complicated now ...lol (NOT). The wireless router has cocked it's toes up for the moment so had to be removed for repairs. All connections are now hard wired into the network so it is more stable and user friendly.

Another Wireless router is in place.
I have now re-vamped this site to give it a more Corporate appearance. Works still progresses on various new features, so please be patient as we complete our updates.

Well now a Dell PowerEdge 2660 runs this website and home network, so hopefully , things will have improved, as well as two new computers to keep me busy with.
Plans are underway to provide more features and facilities on the website so that family and friends can stay in touch easier, post messages on the forum etc. to keep us all informed of what's happening in our lives.
